benecaster_manager_update_entry
Filters the entry the Add-on Manager hands WordPress for an add-on’s update, or its own, in the Plugins and Dashboard → Updates lists.
You may change what WordPress shows (url, icons, banners, tested, upgrade_notice, …). package, plugin, id, slug, new_version and the stored release are put back afterwards, so the download cannot be redirected. Anything but an object is ignored.
upgrade_notice (string) is present only when the release has an upgrade notice, and it is already HTML-escaped, because WordPress’s Dashboard → Updates prints it with only the tags stripped; the Plugins screen prints it through wp_kses() with no tags allowed. You may change it to other text or remove it. A value that is not a string is dropped after the filter, since Dashboard → Updates passes it to strip_tags(), which fails on anything else.
Fired by the Benecaster Add-on Manager, not by Benecaster itself, and only while the Manager is active, so no function_exists() guard is needed. No hook can switch the signature check off, change the updates host, change where the download goes or where the site token is sent, or turn a refusal into an install. No argument carries a site token.
