[benecaster_feed_url]
Displays the current subscriber’s personal RSS feed URL. Shows nothing if the current user is not a subscriber to the show. The default subscriber account page includes this automatically — use this shortcode when building a custom account page to give listeners easy access to their private feed URL for adding to a podcast app. It only ever shows the logged-in visitor their own URL.
It renders one of three states:
- Recovered: the subscriber’s full, working URL, with an enabled Copy button and the hint “This link is yours alone…”. The wrapper carries the URL in a
data-feed-urlattribute, which the front-end script reads to enable Copy. This is the usual state. - Not recoverable: the first few characters of the URL, with Copy disabled and a hint explaining that resetting gives a new link that can be copied. Benecaster shows this when it can’t recover the URL: a token created before recoverable copies were kept, a changed encryption key, or a server without libsodium. After a reset the full new URL replaces it.
- Inactive: the show’s feed has gone dark, so there is no URL at all (see below).
Both of the first two states carry a Reset my feed link button. Its warning says the subscriber will have to re-add the podcast in their app and lose their place in every episode and any downloads. Reset is for a link that has leaked, not for seeing the URL.
When the show’s feed has gone dark (most commonly a lapsed license), this renders “This feed is not currently active, so there is no URL to copy” instead of a URL, and no reset button — a reset would only mint another URL that fails the same way, at the cost of the subscriber’s existing podcast-app setup. Subscription details are unaffected; this only changes what this shortcode itself shows. A follower’s feed is never dark — it carries the public episodes and keeps working regardless of license state, so this never applies to a follower’s token.
To replace or blank out the dark-feed message, use the benecaster_feed_url_output filter — it fires on the full rendered output regardless of which state produced it, so a callback can check for this message and return a custom string, or an empty one, in its place.
Parameters
| Name | Type | Default | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
show_id |
int |
— | No | ID of the show whose feed URL to display. Optional: with no show_id, a show page uses that show, an episode page uses its show, and anywhere else a single-show site uses its only show. Either way the visitor must be logged in and hold an active token for that show. On a multi-show site, on a page that is neither, it renders an inline error comment and short-circuits. |
format |
string |
input
|
No | Display format. Options: input (read-only field with a Copy button), text (the URL as plain text) or link (a hyperlink to the subscriber's feed URL). When the URL can't be recovered on this site, link shows the masked form with no link, and a reset on the same page fills in the new URL. |
label |
string |
Your podcast feed URL
|
No | Label text displayed above or beside the URL. |
